Creation of Newsgroups
Before you decide to create and alt.* or free.* group, inform
yourself about the hierarchies.
The following pages will provide you with a very easy explanation how
you soon have a new Newsgroup running on the Usenet. I will mainly refer
to alt.* groups here, free.* groups don't have any real rules, you can
create groups as you like and whenever you like. The other hierarchies
are not directly controlled by users and only certain "moderators"
are allowed to create groups (what they might do on requests when done
correctly), but very often your group will also get rejected for marginally
reasons.
If you intend to create a Big-8 group or a regional group, take a look
to the links below, they will provide you with the necessary information.
If you intent to create a moderated group, first read the FAQs about group
moderation on the bottom of this page. If you are unsure what hierarchy
to take, check out the links to Deja that you also will find on the bottom
of this page, so you can take a look at those hierarchies.
